Wear Resistance in Hard Chrome Plating

Q. We wanted to know more about Wear resistance for hard chrome plating. How do you increase wear resistance so that you loose less mass during the Wear Resistance tests?

A. Hi, Fernan. This is hard to answer, but in addition to chrome hardness, if the substrate is harder there will usually be less chrome wear.

A. Proprietary formulations as well as fluoride based chemistries both provide better wear resistance for hard chrome than conventional baths. Also, operational parameters have some influence on hardness and wear resistance.
