Silane primer or phosphating as an alternative to grit blasting?

Hello I'm working in shipyard.

I wonder if silane primer is applicable to carbon steel or welding joint as an alternative grit blasting. Is it more expensive? Does it need complex process?

Also phosphating carbon steel needs temperature control?

Your answers will be very appreciated.

Hi, Lee,

Applying primer on welding area is a sealing process to reduce rust speed; however the scale will rust and pop up. So, the welding scale needs to be removed by either physical or chemical way. Contact me if you want to know chemical way.

Yes, you need to control the temperature for phosphate process.
