Effects of oxidation of silver for conductivity

April 2, 2008

Is there any effects occurs on conductivity of silver, if it got oxidised/tarnish?
If yes what is the %?
Is there any formulae which may give answer about all these depending upon the thickness of tarnish?

Kamlesh Byahut

According to the silver institute the answer is no. They did 20 year tests on electrical switches that were tarnished. Coductivity was not compromised. You can check out the website and click on "electrical uses".
