Any difference between Dichromate and Trichromate?

Sir/Madam:

I work in Ship Repair Facility here in Japan. Our facility can perform dichromate finishes, and Japanese companies only do trichromate. What is the difference?

Hi, Ruben. When individual words are presented with limited context it can be difficult or impossible to know what they mean. Dichromate is Cr2O7-2 Trichromate would be, what, Cr3O10-2 ? I don't think such an anion exists.

My suspicion is that someone somewhere is telling you that you should be using RoHS compatible trivalent "chromate", not "trichromate". Good luck
