How to dye eyeglass frames made of metal

I really don't want to have to buy new glasses since my prescription is perfectly fine (and expensive) but my once matte black metal frame glasses are now silver in some spots and the color is very uneven. Is there any way for me to dye the metal on my glass frames without dying the lenses too?

Dyes won't generally work for metals like this. You can see what happens with a black permanent marker (magic marker) though.
