Using temperature to free glass from stainless steel

I currently a junior in high school and have a piece of glass that I draped over a stainless steel cylinder. The problem is the cylinder was not a perfect cylinder and I now can't get the glass off it. Do you have any suggestions of either cooling the cylinder since metal should contract faster than glass or corroding the cylinder(which is already rusty)?

Try WD-40 [on eBay or Amazon] , David, then try putting it in a freezer. Don't believe what you see about acid in movies; it will prove totally impractical to dissolve the cylinder.
