Appearance criteria for anodized surfaces

2000

Trying to locate information pertaining to visual accept/reject criteria for "appearance" of clear anodizing for the automotive industry. It is a bulk process shortly after the extrusion process.

What I am experiencing is alternating patterns of light and dark spots along the length of the bar, stains and a chalky substance almost like a powder.

Are there any standards that address this criteria.

Thank You

ASTM, AMS, Mil, AViation, jet engine mfgs., and all automakers have specifications that address those issues. You will find them to be quite similar. What you describe is unacceptable to everyone that I have done work for.

What kind of aluminum are you processing? What kind of anodize are you using (chromic, boric, sulfuric)? How large are the discolored spots? Are you sealing the anodize? Has a electrical conductivity test been performed on the material? Speculating here. Need more information on your problem. Just trying to help.
