Pitting of Cast Aluminum Engine Covers

(2000)

Hello,

I'm currently restoring a 1970 era British motorcycle and have progressed to a stage where I want to polish the cast Aluminum engine covers. I discovered during initial sanding of some dents that a large area of the surface appears to be porous and has resulted in numerous small pits. Is there some way to repair this condition since polishing does not produce a satisfactory finish ?. I do not know the storage conditions for the vehicle during the past 30 yrs. Thank You.

Sandy
