Nickel plating shop if seeking nickel sulphate

(2000)

RFQ: I run a very small electroless nickel plating shop and we use about 1000 lbs of nickel sulphate (or chloride) a month. Our supplier just raised his price 25%! We need a new supplier to survive. I am looking for a direct contact seller of this product. Please no "you might try the ABC company or give the AAAA Corp. a buzz." Thank you.

A. I'd be having a bad day too if my costs suddenly jumped 25 percent, Warren! Good luck -- hopefully one of our supporting advertisers will contact you.smiley

But this forum is made possible by supporting advertisers for camaraderie and public non-commercial technical discussions. They're pleased to do that, but they don't wish to pay the costs of postings that steer the readers to their competitors, and we all work hard to keep the discussions non-commercial because vested interest responses promote spam and drive wedges into the camaraderie.

A. Just thought I'd add my two cents to this. The supplier is not at fault since the price of any metal salt is ultimately driven by the cost of the base metal. In this case nickel metal and the price of nickel has been climbing rapidly.

There have been production problems worldwide with Nickel metal, plus Inco has had labour problems in the past year which has affected production.

Check out the LME Nickel price in the Wall Street Journal and compare it with the price 6 months ago (may have to go to the library for this) and I'm sure you'll find why nickel salt prices have gone up.

A. Dear Warren,

We find ourselves in the same boat here with the worldwide prices zooming. Combined with nearly 60% import duties, the price of nickel metal in the retail market here are about $17 per kg. Nickel Sulphate retails at about $4 per kg.

Both have gone up by 100% and survival is a big issue now.

If anyone from Inco is reading this, could you please give us an idea of future trends? The market is waiting for prices to stabilise, but is it going to happen ?

thanks and regards,

A. Hello readers,
We've kept these old RFQs on line in order to not litter the site with broken links and pages not found, but it leads people to outdated RFQs, so we changed the plan. If you would like to VIEW CURRENT RFQs or to POST AN RFQ, please follow the link to our RFQ page "Looking for Products & Services for Finishing Shops". Thanks!
