Availability of Zinc Sheet Metal of Foil (or alloys)?

(2000)

I am looking for a small piece of zinc for a project which would resemble a piece of very thin sheet metal (maybe 18 gauge or similar). Is anything available in this form. If so, would it be malleable or brittle. Or, are there any alloys with a high zinc content available which would be somewhat malleable.

Tony,

I don't know what you really need for your project, or how much, but standard 1-1/2 volt flashlight batteries from AAA through D, and even 'lantern' size are made of quite malleable, quite pure, zinc. Make sure it's a standard 'cheapo' battery, not a rechargeable or an alkaline energizer.

Carefully cut it apart. The center rod is carbon, the shell is zinc sheet, and the wet black glop between them is a who-knows-what conductive salt, so flush it without getting any on your eyes or skin.

I too want some sheet zinc. I need a few square feet, perhaps 0.020 to.040 inches thick. There must be someone who has some. Please contact me. Ed Boyle

Hi, Edward. Readers have offered a few sources in letter 24550. Good luck with it.
