Solderability of plated aluminium

2000

We are looking for a material with good solderibility and corrosion resistance that can be plated onto Aluminium. We understand that Nickel plating becomes passive over time, decreasing its solderibility. Does anyone know of any methods to slow down or stop this process, or alternative materials that would suit this application.

Without knowing what it is that you wish to plate, I can only suggest that aluminum busbar is often copper plated. Then it can be tin or silver plated, all over or just on the solderable surfaces. If aesthetics are not a concern, copper plating followed by immersion tinning or immersion silvering might be the best approach.
