Patination or darkening of aluminum leaf

Hi
I am a artist working with aluminum leaf and I am trying to find a chemical that would darken aluminum leaf. The treatment needs to be spray applied or put on with a sponge as the work is in situ and vertical.
I am aware that ammonium may have some effect and will experiment soon, but if anyone know any other reactions I would be grateful.
