Passivation Fluid Testing and Criteria

What is the recommended test for nitric acid passivation fluids and to what criteria? I need to establish a method to determine the life of my acid baths.

Ed Redmon

You can get the required nitric acid concentration and iron contamination limit from ASTM A967 which covers stainless steel passivation. You can get an analytical method for nitric acid concentration from the Metal Finishing Guidebook, solution testing section. You can get an iron test kit from laboratory supply companies.
