-----Gun blueing at home
Q. Looking for a book on blueing. I want to re-blue a 270 for my uncle. I'd like to try it, if I can get a book that has step by step on blueing..thanks !

A. The so called "blueing" on guns is actually black oxide, applied from a hot (290F) concentrated caustic solution, not something you want to do at home. There are some safer processes advertised for home use (do a web search), but they do not produce as dark color as true black oxide, and are not as durable. Black oxide is not expensive, so why not let a professional shop do the job correctly for you? ![]() Jeffrey Holmes, CEF Spartanburg, South Carolina A. A. Angier's book is fascinating but very deep water for a non specialist.
Stay friends with your uncle - send the gun to a specialist.
It is likely to be less expensive than buying the chemicals
