Anodized copper sinks

2006

Hi: This may not qualify for your site but here goes anyway. I am a home owner and I am remodeling the bathrooms in my house. I purchased some (aluminum) anodized copper sinks (Jon Rohl/Grauman) for the project. Prior to installation I decided to clean the sinks as there were some finger prints, etc. that were rather unsightly. There were no cleaning instructions supplied with the sinks. I first tried some mild soap and water, then some Windex then some "Simply Green" cleaner. All of which failed to have any effect on the finger prints. I next tried "Wright's Copper Cream ⇦ on eBay or Amazon [affil link] ". The next thing I knew is that I was literally wiping off the finish of the sinks. They went from a bright copper color to a splotchy brownish mess totally unusable for the remodel application.

My questions are:

1) If they were anodized copper aluminum sinks (which the manufacturer said they were) would copper cleaner have destroyed the finish.

2) Can they be re-anodized and if so what can be used to clean them without destroying the finish.
