Stainless Steel - Cosmetic Finishes

We are looking to be creative on some household appliances and were wondering what if any plating / painting / brushing cosmetic finishes we could apply and more importantly if there were any restrictions because of 304 or 316 stainless being used.

If you want to colour SS you can use heat tinting, that is simplest way(only if your objects are not soft soldered)to embellish SS surface. Stainless steel can be coloured by anodic oxidation ,but most of proprietary solutions contains hex chromates.Try to find old Fishlocks Book on Metal Colouring.Hope it helps and good luck!

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
