Preparing aluminum siding

2006

We have aluminum siding on our house that is chipping due to hail. We would like to paint it soon. Do we need to take it down to bare metal or just take the chipping paint off with a putty knife and an abrasive pad? My plan is to make a solution of TSP [trisodium phosphate [on eBay or Amazon]] and feed it through a power washer to do a final prep and then spray a primer coat and then a top coat of latex. Is this a good plan? What modifications would be better?
Thank you.
