Appropriate electroplating spec for part prints?
My company currently zinc electroplates many of its steel parts. The notes on our part prints were written by our current plater. We are moving some of our parts to a new plater, and the notes are incorrect for their process. We want to know if there is a "generic" note that is recognized as a plating industry standard. Our main requirements are chromate color (appearance) and 300 hr life to red rust.Jonathan A [last name deleted for privacy by Editor]

Jonathan, I don't know what kind of notes your current plater wrote, there are "generic" notes that is recognized as a plating industry standard, these are called specifications and the most widely used are the ones by the AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR TESTING AND MATERIALS (ASTM) and they cover Zinc Electroplating (ASTM B633 [link by ed. to spec at TechStreet] -85), Tests for Chromate Coatings (ASTM ASTM B201-80 [link by ed. to spec at TechStreet] ), and Methods for Salt spray Testing ( ASTM B117 [link by ed. to spec at TechStreet] -90).
