Recycling steel (plated or not plated)

When developing a product that will eventually become recycled, material selection can be very important. Can zinc plated steel be mixed with bare steel when the materials are recycled? In other words, is there special handling of zinc plated products when they become recycled versus bare steel?

Automobiles are made from a mix of zinc plated, zinc galvanized, and unplated parts, so I don't think it's a problem.
