Q. Sir,
Can you guide me regarding the painting procedure for polyurethane coating on aluminum extruded section used in industrial valves.
1) Is there any air drying type of paint.
2) Does this coating give any nail hardness feature.
3) Is baking the painted component in the oven necessary.
Regards,

A. Hi, gentlemen. Polyurethane is simply the name of a polymer/plastic. It even includes thermoplastics as well as thermosets, and can be applied as powders or paints. There are also 100% polyurethanes, which means coatings that involve no solvents, and these are generally applied as two liquids which react after application.

The answers to Ashwin's questions are Yes, Yes, and No. But your questions involve a very broad range of highly diverse technologies and can't be answered in a few paragraphs.

You can start at www.polyurethane.org, and if you determine that your interest is limited to 100% polyurethanes, you can try www.geocities.com/pucoating/faq1.htm
