Copper liver finish, trying to replicate Italian technique

I presently work for glass & metal company and we are looking to replicate a type of finish called copper liver. The finish is on hot rolled steel and takes on a brown speckle look . My question is there anyone who has try this type of finish or have ideas on how it can be done.

I've never heard of it, but until someone who has chimes in I'd guess at it being an immersion copper (copper sulphate) process followed by selective oxidation with liver of sulfur ⇦ on eBay or Amazon [affil link] .
