-----Etchant for Ti alloyed 4340 for prior austenitic grain size
2006
Hi,
I am struggling to get a correct etchant for my 4340 steel sample which has been alloyed with Ti..The samples have been quenched and tempered(at 3 diff temp)..I have also tried as quenched specimens but that doesn't seem to work.
I have tried nital and variants of picric acid based etchants but that doesn't seem to help me although I was able to get the grain size measurements from the picric acid based etchants for the non-Ti alloyed 4340.
Thanks so much

Have you had any luck with the grain structure on this 4340 material?
