Difference between room temp. passivation and heated passivation (what does the heat do?)

(-----) 2006

We are a machine shop in upstate New York that does our own Type 2 and Type 4 passivation. A customer calls out their own passivation spec. on a drawing that describes QQ-P-35C [link is to free spec at Defense Logistics Agency, dla.mil] type 2 passivation, except done at room temp. (Type 2 passivation I'm familiar with has a temp. range of 120-120 F.) What is the difference?
