How well does Nickel Plate finish prevent corrosion (RUST)?

Also, is there a chart or table that list a number of material finishes against corrosion?

There are lists of the general ideas behind various metal finishes. NASF at nasf.org offers one called "Understaning Surface Finishing". But I've never seen such a chart in several decades in this business, Philip, and I suspect that the reason is that it's too complicated. Zinc protects steel sacrificially, but doesn't offer the appearance of nickel or chrome (especially when applied in heavy coatings). A top quality multilayer nickel-chrome plating system can protect a bumper in the worst environment for decades, but a single layer of nickel plating doesn't offer much protection except in a benign interior environment.
