Methanol damaging epoxy paint

2006

I have an aluminum product with the following finish;

Chem film per ASTM B449 [affil link] , class #3
Prime, one coat of MIL-PRF-85582 [affil link or DLA] , Type 1, class C2
Top coat per MIL-DTL-46168, Type 2

If the painted (cured) product is exposed (submerged) to methanol [affil link] for 5-10 minutes the paint and primer will blister and lift of the base metal in sheets (paint and primer stay bonded to each other). The paint is soft when scrapped with finger nail.

Is this expected with methanol or is the paint suspect. Ethanol has no effect, Acetone is about the same as methanol. I am heat curing a few samples to see if maybe the paint is not fully cured.

Thanks,
William J. Sampson
