Question on racking for small parts

Hi,

I have hundreds of brass screws (0.87" dia X 1.75" long) need to be Silver-plated.
When I ask the machine shop that made the part for me to do the plating, they ask me to change the design to add a tiny tap hole for hanging purposes.
My question is do I need to do that? Why can they use a rack to do the Silver plating?
Please advise.

Thanks,

Weng Seng Lam

There will be 'rack marks' somewhere Weng. Your choice of whether you add a tapped hole or accept the rack marks. But if the parts can be barrel plated without harm, maybe they can be plated with no markings.

Find another plater. If this one does not do barrel plating, they should have referred you to one that does. If nothing else, it is not cost effective to rack individual small screws.
