Plating of platinum in the early 20th century

2006

Was is customary to plate platinum in the 1920-30's to achieve a white, bright, reflective surface for a gem? I have a couple of pieces of jewelry that belonged to my grandmother which I suspect were plated with possibly rhodium, but a jeweler has appraised as platinum. Marie

You can find recipes for platinum plating even in first half of 19. century handbooks-so why not(rhodium plate is possible only after1930.)? Hope it helps and good luck!
