Corroded Aluminum Door Threshhold

I have the threshhold of my aluminum door corroded leaving a whitish substance,
What could be the cause? Part of the roofing is over the door, so it's protected from direct rain.

All metals except gold and other precious metals corrode, Chako. The corrosion products of aluminum include this whitish substance. When the threshold was new it had some sort of protective coating that has now worn away, probably aided by the abrasion of foot traffic. That coating may have been a clearcoat or it may have been anodizing, but there isn't enough information to hazard a guess as to whether the problem is your expectations being too high, improper installation, or the manufacturer specifying an inadequate protective coating.
