Cost reduction for plating of aluminum bus bar

2006

As part of a cost reduction event, an idea was thrown out to replace the current nickel-silver plate used on our 6101 Aluminum bussing with an alternate protective coating. I have researched different protective coatings for Aluminum and have yet to find anything that is corrosion resistant, durable, highly conductive (electrically), and less expensive than nickel-silver plate. Does anyone out there have any ideas?

It is fairly common to plate aluminum bus bar with copper, and to restrict any additional plating or treatment to the joint area.

If your material are aluminum, why don't treat they directly by anode treatment or vacuum plating as the surface treatment.
