Do you know what nitrates are present in the water from electroplating industry?

I am designing an experiment on water from electroplating industry and wanted to design one for testing nitrates in it. So far, I could not find out what nitrates could be present?

Nitrates would rarely be used in the electroplating process per se, but they are used in black oxiding of steel, in bright dipping of aluminum, and in pickling of stainless steel as a few examples.
