Suitable valves for concentrated sulfuric acid

2006

I've got many information of piping for concentrated sulfuric acid. Heavy mild steel,PVDF and others material are recommended. In case of valves, would you suggest the suitable type and material. Diaphragm valves ( Ceramic lining ) are using in our plant for 98% Sulfuric at ambient temperature/3.0 bar max.pressure .They have often leaked, external corroded, failed to close. Can we save the cost by changing the valve type?

Hi P.T.

As a PVC mfgr. you'd know, I hope, that the Trovidur red PVC is said to be good for 98% sulphuric .... so my question is why not try good old uPVC?

Plast-0-matics make a range of superior valves and I love their ball valves.... but the O-rings would have to be at least Viton.

So the 'regular' PVC maybe only good for 96% ...but surely even that @ 98% would last and last .... and then there's always the question of '98%' sulphuric ... it its concentration drops, PVC swims to the top.
