Rusting Stainless Steel BBQ

I'm in the market for a high quality SS BBQ. There are so many manufacturers of bbq's it's hard to tell which is the better. Is there a rating of the different types of stainless steels used in making bbq's? Are there best qualities of stainless to use? What should one look for in a s/s bbq?

Thanks,

Charles Lipton

Hello Charles. 316 is better than 304 (18/8) which is better than 4xx. But realistically, you should check magazines like Consumer Reports, or rely on the reputation of the manufacturer. No manufacturer discloses sufficient manufacturing detail that a consumer is really likely to be able to predict their satisfaction with the BBQ construction materials from first principles. Good luck.

I have read information about magnetic and non magnetic stainless steel. Which is more prone to rust or oxidize?

Hi, Jerry. Type 316 and 304 are non-magnetic and are less prone to rusting than 4xx stainless steel, which is magnetic. Good luck.
