How conductive is powder coat paint?

2006

If a steel enclosure is powder coated, how much of the grounding properties of the steel are affected?

We decided to use a Tiger Drylac conductive powder coating for the enclosure for improved EMI emissions suppression.

Does that mean that you aren't going to mask areas (to keep bare spots) to attach your ground too?

We had to mask the textured surfaces, the un-textured surfaces were conductive, the texturing had an adverse effect on the conductivity of the conductive powder coating.

Chris Jardin

Do you have any experience with this?

We have power supply boxes that we want to improve the EMI of, we are thinking of conductive foams, some of the metal mesh covered foams or the finger style gaskets, (chomerics makes a bunch of these). But.... we would have to leave the boxes bare or paint them with conductive powder coat (we have a good powder coat line)
