Galvanized contact poisoning?

Greetings,

I am currently a senior enrolled in a college welding class; I take this class very seriously. I am building a kids playground for a set that my friend is building at the local drama club. After this play is over kids will be playing on it all of the time. If the fire pole is galvanized pipe, will there be any adverse effects. If so please let me know A.S.A.P. so that I may choose another kind of material. Thank you very much.

The welding of galvanized material is the only concern, because of the fumes emitted.
