Low friction coating (µ from 0.2 to 0.25)

1999

I'm a young engineer in materials and mechanics. I'm looking for a low friction coating (friction coefficient from 0.2 to 0.25) for a new friction application to transmit power.

pressure: 0 - 12 MPa

sliding speeds: 0 - 2.5 m/s

ambient temperature:-20 to +90 °c

substrate : steel

antagonist : steel

surface temperature estimated at 100 °c

I thank you very much for your response.

Sounds like a good description of hard chrome plating, Jerome! Plate one of the two items with hard chrome. Good luck. smiley face

Composite Nickel-Teflon coatings developed for high lubricity and available from a number of electroless nickel chemistry vendors may work well in your application.

Good luck,

Dear Mr. Meleard:

There are excellent friction reducers that are bonded onto various metals. It is a finely dispersed Teflon emulsion that coats the metal from an aqueous solution (no organic solvents). A hot air dry is all that is needed for final bonding.
