I want to paint a polystyrene life buoy (currently white) red

I am unsure of which steps I need to take to paint a brand new, 30", white, polystyrene life buoy red. The life Buoy cost me some bucks and don't want to mess up. Then want to add my logo to it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't think there's a one best way when it comes to painting plastic. We have many inquiries on line here that debate that issue, including letters 12483, 7359, 14173, and 36210.

To summarize them for this application, I think I would lightly sand and then either use Bulldog Tie Coat [affil links] and a top coat or Krylon Fusion [on eBay or Amazon] . Good luck.
