Formulation of primer coat paint

Q. I am looking for the scientific names of any epoxy primers, which relate to the jobs that they do, i.e., Chromate/chromate free, etch primer. Please include a simple definition of what purpose they serve in relation to their physical/chemical make up.

A. Michael,

There is no specific scientific name for epoxy primers, they are a mixture of resins, dyes and solvents. Most of the ingredients are proprietary and no one is going to give you their formulation in an open forum.

Your best bet is to talk directly to the paint manufacturers; they will be able to help you with a certain amount of your query.

Q. Can anyone suggest a starting formulation for basic automotive primer paints?
