Phosphorus Removal from Wastewater

We are attempting to reduce the phosphate content of alkaline cleaners and iron phosphating chemicals due to proposed phosphorus limits. However, the changes we have made have resulted in increased maintenance of the pretreatment system. Are there any ideas of how we can do this and maintain quality and improve environmental compliance simultaneously? Has anyone used a reputable vendor that has a product that uses minimal amounts of phosphates and phosphoric acid and produces a high quality output? Any thoughts on effective, economical phosphorus treatment techniques? Regards,

An alternative for the phosphorus removal is the "biological removal process" that uses stressed bacterial cultures to remove the phosphorus in a two phase train: Anoxi Stage-Oxic Stage and then secondary clarification to remove the cells. It has shown good results and better results than chemical methods. I already work on that problem at the Laboratorio de Calidad del Agua de la Facultad de IngenierÌa. If you are interested, forward me your thoughts. I possess a Master degree in Environmental Engineering.
