-----Zinc plating die cast ?
1999
Hello,
I am looking for a local shop that can zinc plate die cast cars that were made in the 60's and 70's.I have been told by a few shops that it is not possible, but being in the automotive restoration industry,I think I know zinc when I see it,and these cars sure look as if they were zinc plated.
Can anyone help to answer this question? Thanks for the space, Mitchel

Yes, zinc die cast definitely can be zinc plated. But since I don't have a plating jobshop and can't do it for you, I hesitate to give process advice that might come between you and the shop. Maybe a shop here that offers it will respond. Regards,

Any shop that has a zinc diecast prep line and a zinc tank can do this for you Mitchel. When you call around you should ask if they have experience doing zinc diecast. You should tell them the type of finish you want: bright, dull, with a yellow or clear chromate. The more specific you are the better your results will be. If the cars have paint on them you should tell your plater that. I wouldn't recommend blasting the paint off if you need it removed. Some platers might have a chemical paint stripper but not all (we don't).

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
