Clear coating is it a must?

Me and my buddy are getting ready to strip his 79Z28 down to metal and we want to know if clear coat is a must? We want it to look awsome like something out of HOTROD. We were thinking of using some Valspar silver metallic.

There's more than one way to skin this cat. Clear coat looks great, but it's more a matter of technique than it is the type of paint. The acrylic enamlel w/ urethane hardener systems can look great too, as can the straight urethanes without clearcoat.

Those really awsome Boyd Coddington type paint jobs are all polished and buffed to get that ultimate paint job.

Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
