Electrolytic blackening of CRS
What is a good source of information on electrolytic blackening? Will it work on machined cold rolled steel? Does it provide corrosion resistance? What about build-up and thickness tolerances?Doug Moyer

Hi, Doug. I know of electrolytic blackening for brass and copper, but I am not familiar with a generic process called electrolytic blackening for steel. There is hot black oxiding (which does not require current, but doesn't deliver much corrosion protection), salt bath nitriding, and several black electroplatings including black chrome and black nickel.
