Bad adhesion between Wood's nickel strike layer and electroless nickel layer

(1999)

I am a process engineer at Hovuma in Elst (Netherlands). We have a electroless nickel line and an anodizing line.

At this moment we have a problem with the adhesion between the Wood's nickel strike layer and the electroless nickel layer. A test panel shows us that there is contamination in the high current area. We can't find out what it is.

Nickel strikes tend to "grow" nickel chloride . Check concentration and if too high, dilute the solution. Also check iron content - it may be too high. The most common problem is organic contamination. In this case, filter with active carbon. What do you mean by contamination at high current density? Do you see a white deposit or what?

Judith, are you plating on aluminum, stainless steel or what? The step between the nickel strike and electroless nickel are the parts allowed to dry? Need to know more to make suggestions.
