Battery Acid spill in aluminum boat

Q. On my boat, one of the batteries froze during the winter, the case was split, and all the battery acid [affil links] drained into the bilge of the aluminum boat.
It is very difficult to get to the bottom of the hull at that point. Could you let me know if I should be worried?

A. The fish are worried and you should be. Acid is terribly corrosive to aluminum. This should be neutralized immediately with a baking soda [on eBay or Amazon] solution. For the hard to reach area, maybe you could feed it in with a hose-end plant sprayer [on eBay or Amazon] on a hose?
