-----Ebonol C50 on brass doorware
I work for a business that deals in door hardware, and one of the task we perform is Ebonoling brass doorware components with a product called Ebonol C50 from Enthone - OMI.
It is a simple process - strip the lacquere off the brass item with a striping chemical, wash and clean the item then dip in ebonol to darken, wash, and dry.
The finish looks good, and thats about the limit of my knowledge. Apart from the safety concerns that go with ebonol and chemical usage.
Sometimes the finish is too dark and it needs to be re-done. This is achieved by using a metal polishing cloth which removes the ebonol colour - back to brass. So it would appear that ebonoling is not a permantent finish, or so it would appear.
What I am looking for is more information on the ebonol process and how it effects the brass, its life span on the brass, other ebonol type finishes ie. C115, general info.
