PVD - Fashion Jewellery Applications ?

Q. Can you assist?

I own a fashion jewelry company that sells product in New Zealand and Australia. We currently use gold electroplating finished with a clear lacquer for our jewelry. I estimate that this gives us approx. 10-12 microns of cover which is still not satisfactory given the treatment it sometimes receives from customers. We are very keen to find out if PVD technology could be applied to our product. Our base metal is brass and we market chains, bracelets and rings (some with cz stones).

Your input would be appreciated.

Dermot, I don't see why not. You might want to contact Vapor Technologies in Boulder Colorado. They're leaders in decorative coatings.

Hi Dermot ,
What sort of lacquer are you using ? is it just a wet spray ? If you are plating say up to 3 microns of gold , you could cut the Gold thickness down by 50% if you used an Electrophoretic lacquer. Are you trying for Nickel-Free?
what is the real problem if you elaborate , perhaps we can find a fix

Best regards
