-----Aluminum finish and fatigue life
I am looking for some information on how much the condition of an aluminum substrate's polished surface, prior to being coated, would be a factor in fatigue life.

Hi, Kenny. I don't think it's possible to take a qualitative term like 'polished' and then get its quantitative impact. But it's a widespread process to shot peen the surface for an improvement in fatigue life -- The theory is that by putting the surface in compression, the cyclic loading on the surface may remain compressive or only slightly tensile.
