Alternative to MIL-C-5541 1A

2005

Hi,

I work for a company in the automotive sector in Mexico. We are currently sourcing a national supplier of Aluminium Die Casting parts for a new project. The customer specification of the chemical conversion coating of the these aluminium parts that we are currently purchasing from a US source is per MIL-C-5541 1A.

We have found some potential suppliers but we are having trouble finding sources for the coating earlier mentioned.

Now my questions are:

1. Does anyone know if this military standard MIL-C-5541 1A is commonly used in Mexico?
2. Are there any equivalent chemical conversion coatings (similar process that give the same result according to any other standard more common in Mexico.

Since the company is German and engineering comes from Germany it is a common problem for us that we have to compare ASTM standards with DIN standards.

Regards,

Jack Jacobsson
Automotive supplier - Mexico

If you are going to send parts to Europe it is imperative that you read and comply with the RoHS directive.
