Removing heat scale after cadmium plating

Q. I need to know if anyone knows that it is safe to redip the part after it has been plated and baked to remove heat scale.

Thanks,

A. Hello Glen. It seems very unlikely that you can remove a heat scale without seriously compromising the plating, but on the other hand the plating is often reactivated with a gentle acid dip after baking. Please tell us what the part is, the substrate material, and the plating material, and a fuller answer may be possible.

Sometimes people do the baking in an inert atmosphere or put the parts in stainless steel bags to prevent scaling. Please tell us the situation rather than posting your issue as an abstract proposition, which probably renders it unanswerable. Thanks!
