LOOKING TO OPEN A CHROME PLATING SHOP WHAT LAWS APPY ETC

I'M LOOKING TO OPEN A BRIGHT PLATING SHOP IN NORTH EAST OHIO AND THE ONLY THING THAT I HAVE FOUND SO FAR IS THE CLEAN AIR ACT. I HAVE A COMPANY THAT POLISHES AND I USE AN OUTSIDE CORP TO PLATE ALL OF MY PRODUCT. BUT I CAN NOT FIND ANY OTHER INFO ABOUT PLATING LAWS AND REGULATIONS. I UNDERSTAND THAT YOU HAVE TO HAVE OLD WASTE HAULED AWAY ETC. BUT THE KINDA VOLUME THAT I'M TALKING ABOUT IS LOW SCALE. DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY INFO THAT CAN HELP ME. THANKS.

This has been talked about dozens of times in the past. Do a search of two or three years of the letters at this site. In particular, look at starting a chrome business. The initial search would have given you more than enough to be able to ask specific questions vs "tell me everything that I need to know".

I would suggest that you start either with a plating consultant or an attorney, who can walk you through all the steps necessary. There are several excellent consultants in the Dayton area that have experience in doing this type of work. It would be money well spent.

There is a lot more that you need to learn about, including Ohio and Federal discharge regulations, your local sewer code discharge limits, and the OSHA regulations (currently being changed) that apply to a chromium plating operation.
