-----Zinc Plating over Galvanizing
Can a Fe/Zn 5 Zinc Plating be applied over a Galvanized coating on a M6 Hex Nut?
B. WilhelmJacksonville, Florida, USA
2005
Hello B. You'll need to put this in context before you can get a reasonable reply, but a plating shop can certainly not run these parts through a standard cycle in a plating barrel because the galvanizing will be completely stripped by their alkaline cleaners and acid dips. Probably the nuts' threads were cut oversized to allow for galvanizing, so the nut won't fit either. Please tell us what you are trying to accomplish and why.
